New chapter, new location : Reading Central Library is moving
As a valued library user, we want to let you know library services will be unavailable from Central Library, Kings Road from Monday 11 May while we move to our brand-new home at the Civic Offices, Bridge Street, RG1 2LU. The new Central Library will open in summer 2026 and we look forward to welcoming you there.
The new library will be large and bright with a new children’s section and teen area.
There will also be almost 100 working stations each with a power point and free wifi.
Nothing will be due back at Central Library during the move period. You can return items to any other Reading Library. We do not charge fines.
The move does not affect the library app, or online catalogue.
In preparation for the move, Selms reservations will be unavailable from Wednesday 8th April. Stock held at Reading Central Library will be unavailable for reservation from Friday 1st May. Selms and Central Library stock will be made available for reservations again once we reopen.
Toy Library - next opening day is 15 April
The Toy Library has reopened at Palmer Park Leisure Centre and Stadium. Opening hours will be Wednesdays 10.30am to 12.30pm during Reading College term time only - this is now closed for Easter.
Toys can be reserved and collected at any of our branches. Giant toys will need to be collected from Palmer Park Leisure Centre and Stadium during Toy Library opening hours.
