Bridge carrying the Reading, Guildford and Reigate Railway over the River Kennet at Reading, c. 1849. Work is still in progress on the retaining wall just west of the bridge. The view is from the Great Western Railway, with Reading Gaol and the town centre in the distance to the right. In the foreground there are workmen with spades and barrows, whilst on the other side of the river there is a timber yard with a saw-bench. A barge, "Kennet and Avon Canal, " is being towed by a horse on the near side of the river, and a sailing barge is moored by the far bank. 1840-1849: print, drawn and lithographed by A.
