Double bill of French dramas written and directed by Claude Berri. 'Jean de Florette' (1986) is set in Provence in the 1930s. Jean (Depardieu) brings his family to his mother's old farm, hoping to live an idyllic life in the countryside. However, his scheming neighbours Le Papet (Yves Montand) and Ugolin (Daniel Auteuil) covet his farm's little-known water source, and the resulting feud escalates towards tragedy. The sequel, 'Manon Des Sources' (1986), is set ten years after Jean's death, with his daughter Manon (Emmanuelle Béart) still haunting the hills overlooking the land stolen from her father by Le Papet and Ugolin. When Manon learns the truth behind her father's death she sets out to exact revenge by depriving the entire community of their water supply just as they deprived Jean.
