John ("Jack") Sharp in 1909, when he would have been about ten years old, in an Eton collar and a three-piece suit with breeches and long stockings. He was brought up in Bath Road, Taplow, and attended the County Boys' School in Maidenhead. During the First World War he served in the Machine Gun Corps, and was wounded. He recovered, and became an engineer, apprenticed to G. D. Peters and Company of Slough. For a time he worked for Pressed Steel at Theale, before moving to the Northampton area. 1900-1909
