Three men being burned at the stake near Newbury in 1556, surrounded by a crowd of people, some carrying pole-axes, and two of them priests. The three victims, executed for their protestant beliefs, are Julius Palmer (sometimes written Julins Palmer), John Givin, and Thomas Askiw. 16th century: print with the caption, "The burning of Mr. Julius Palmer (Fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford), Mr. John Givin, and Mr. Thos. Askiw, at the Sandpits near Newbery in Berkshire."
