Caversham Bridge, from a high vantage point on the Reading bank, downstream of the bridge, c. 1860. The metal span, supported on timbers, is to the left, followed by six brick arches, with the waterman's cottage on Piper's Island to the right, hiding the rest of the bridge. In the left foreground is a timber wharf, with a barge moored at it. In the right foreground is another barge, with windlasses. There are workmen on both barges. 1860-1869 : postcard by Reading Libraries, c. 1975, with the caption, "Caversham Bridge before 1869." The original photograph is at #1266951; another copy in the album "Photographs of Caversham District" by William Wing, page 6
