London Road, Reading, looking eastwards from the corner of East Street, c. 1823. On the left are recognisable No. 31 (The Turk's Head Inn); No. 33; No. 35; No. 35, with iron verandah, which had been the home of Mary Russell Mitford a short while before; and a matching house with iron verandah. On the right are several buildings, none of them readily identifiable. A flock of sheep is being driven along the road. The Reading and London coach stands outside the inn. A large covered waggon pulled by a team of horses is proceeding towards London, and two men appear to be loading a block of dressed stone onto a flat wagon, or unloading it. 1820-1829 : postcard, from the print by W. H. Timms, "The London Road from Reading." The print is at Dynix 1219018
