Market Place, Reading, looking northwards to St. Laurence's Church, c. 1823. Identifiable on the west side, No. 40 (John and Samuel Ford, upholsterers and cabinet makers). The Simeon obelisk is visible, and St. Laurence's Church has Blagrave's Piazza in front of it. The market is in progress. To the right, empty carts and wagons are lined up, and various laden vehicles are moving through the Market Place. Sacks of grain, calves, and agricultural implements are being offered for sale, and some kind of military parade appears to be taking place. 1820-1829 : print, entitled "View of the Corn Market, Obelisk, & St. Lawrence's Church, " by W. H. Timms, from his "Views of Reading" published in 1823. There is a postcard version at Dynix 1220243
